Prajitura imposibila: ciocolata, crema de zahar ars si caramel (chocoflan) – also in English

For English please scroll down

In sfarsit, am ajuns sa postez si aceasta reteta.

Chocolate Entry #21: National Chocolate Caramel Day

Death by Chocolate

As if this week being American Chocolate Week was not enough, today is also National Chocolate Caramel Day!
Chocolate and caramel is probably one of the most common pairings of chocolate, and, in my opinion, one of the best.  My favorite chocolate caramels are probably Ghirardelli’s Dark and Caramel, but I also just yesterday tried a piece of chocolate caramel from Le Chocolat du Bouchard in Naperville, IL.  This was actually the first time I have ever had a chocolate with caramel that was not your typical smooth and creamy caramel.  The filling to this chocolate was actually more the consistency that one would associate with Nugget.  Though it was very tasty, it was not one of my favorites, and I find I prefer the more traditional consistency of caramel.

I also once attempted to make chocolate caramel cupcakes….though the attempt fell short.  Caramel can be just as temperamental to…

Sticky Toffee Cupcakes

Gloverly Cupcakes

sticky toffee cupcakes

I’ve been wanting to make these cupcakes for ages and they were definitely worth the wait. The caramel cream cheese buttercream is probably one of the best buttercreams I’ve tasted for a while – the texture was so smooth and silky and it had just the right sweetness. I could have eaten the whole bowl!

sticky toffee cupcakes

I made these for the Comic Relief Bake Off in the office which was a bit of a risk given I’d never made them before. But I decided that all the other recipes I’ve tried from Peggy Porschen’s Boutique Baking book have all been really tasty so these would be too and they didn’t let me down. I decided to leave the walnuts out since I know not everyone likes them, but I think they would have added an extra crunch which would have made these perfect. As it was they were delicious – just…

Dark Chocolate, Salted, Caramel Rice Krispies

love library

rice_krispiesCan you all tell this month has been kicking my butt? Easy projects have been key lately. Lucky for you (and me) this recipe is super easy!

I wanted to make Rice Krispies for a work luncheon, but I had to do something a little different. So, I thought, why not substitute caramel for the marshmallows?! Then I got real crazy and added sea salt and chocolate– my favorite combo.

3 cups of Rice Krispies
1 package (14 oz.) of caramels
2 tablespoons of butter
5 squares of dark chocolate (or enough to drizzle on top)
2 pinches of sea salt

Melt butter in a double boiler* over low heat. Add caramels and stir until candy has completely melted together. Add Rice Krispies to the caramel one cup at a time. Stir quickly! Take off the heat and spread into a greased pan.

Break chocolate into little pieces and…

Homemade TWIX Bars

IMG_6028Need I say more?

My staff and I had a VERY challenging week at the ol’ preschool, so I was looking for the perfect sweet treat to get us through our Friday, AND to show my appreciation for them coming back to fight another day!

It’s a tough job guys, really it is. I would REALLY lose my mind without my paraprofessionals.

I needed CHOCOLATE, and had seen homemade Twix bars before and could not get them out of my mind.

I came across a fabulous blog called High Heels & Grills whose recipe for Homemade Twix Bars seemed just perfect, so I gave it ago.

Let me tell you it IS pretty dang perfect.

My staff ate these up (and so did I), and they even took some home to share with their families!

I will definitely make these again, they were simple and really hit the spot.
